Reader Trinh Hang (40 years old, Hanoi) has just successfully applied for a Schengen visa to France.

Step 1: Research and collect information

The first thing is to submit the online declaration.

Visit the French Government’s online visa page, choose one of six languages and submit the declaration.

Our declaration was made entirely by a 16-year-old young man and there were no errors because the content of the declaration was quite simple.

It is necessary to prepare the declaration before preparing other documents because the last pages of the declaration are the list of documents that need to be submitted.

The procedure for applying for a Schengen visa to France is quite simple.

Step 2: Prepare documents

This is the most important step because a good profile has a high chance of getting a visa.

– Visa declaration form: after submitting online in step 1, just print the pdf file with barcode, paste the card photo on the first page and sign, no stamp needed.

– Original passport, issued not more than 10 years ago, including at least 2 blank pages, valid for at least 3 months after the expected date of departure from Schengen.

– ID photo: two photos sized 3.5 cm x 4.5 cm, white background, taken from the front, no obstructions, face area accounts for at least 70% of the photo area, hair must not cover the forehead or eyebrows

– Schedule: you can build your own itinerary, in which France must be the main destination.

– Round-trip air tickets: you only need to book a seat, no need to pay, print the ticket and attach it to your file.

– Documents proving employment: original or notarized copy of labor contract, employment certificate, leave certificate signed by employer, retirement certificate, notarized household registration

– Financial proof documents: Bank account statement, most recent 3-month payroll, tax payment certificate (if you are a business owner), regular source of income… Purpose of these documents

– Documents about residence in France/Schengen: Confirmation of hotel reservation, vacation apartment rental contract or certificate of home ownership in France.

– Original health insurance certificate or notarized copy.

– If you are traveling with a child under 18 years old: the child’s visa declaration form must be signed by the legal guardian (father or mother) and accompanied by a notarized copy of the child’s birth certificate.

– If you travel in a group and many documents are shared (airline tickets, hotels), then each person’s documents need to be kept separately in a photocopy of all those documents.

Step 3: Submit application

You can submit your application up to 90 days, at least 20 days before the expected departure date.

Application submission time: during office hours or outside office hours from Monday to Friday every week or from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon on Saturdays.

Submission location: Hanoi Consulate on the 8th floor, Pacific Place Building, 83B Ly Thuong Kiet or Ho Chi Minh City Consultation at L08 – Floor 12A, Office Building, Vincom Dong Khoi or 72 Le Thanh Ton and 45A Ly Tu Trong, Ward

Regarding costs: you need to pay two types of fees.

When you make an appointment to submit your application, you will see the TLS website display many time frames and set them yourself.

After making an appointment online, you will receive an automatic email stating the time and appointment number.

On the appointment date, bring all prepared documents to TLS’s address in Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City.

If your card photo and passport are valid, you will enter the application submission area.

If you prepare your documents well, you only need to go to TLS Company once to submit the application, fee, and get biometric data.
