Along with Koyasan and Hieizan, Osorezan (Mount Osore) is one of the three holiest places in Japan.

Osorezan means `Mountain of Fear`.

Mount Osore is said to be the gate to the other world in Japan.

When you get out of the car, you will see a scene that many tourists consider `scary` and `indescribable`: the ground is gray, barren and cracked.

They also believe that it is the place that contains the river to connect the two banks of yin and yang in the world.

There are 3 ways to cross the river.

According to Japanese beliefs, when they die, they must cross the eternal river called Sanzu.

However, in legend, demons often throw stones to destroy these bridges.

This Jiso is very well cared for by parents whose children died early, such as wearing warm clothes when winter comes.

The Jiso can be stone statues, or simply tower-shaped stone mounds, erected by people.

Every year, the Bodaiji festival takes place from July 22 to 24, attracting the attention of many couples who have lost children as well as tourists.

More information:

Mount Osore is located in the center of the axe-shaped peninsula (Shimokita) in Aomori Prefecture.

There are 5 buses connecting Shimokita station, Mutsu bus Terminal and Osorezan.
