After a gentle victory in the third round, Novak Djokovic will face the player who made him spend four hours competing in the semi-finals of Roland Garros 2020. In that match, Djokovic led Tsitsipas by two sets but was still pulled to set five.

Djokovic has beaten Tsitsipas twice on clay courts.

`Novak has won many times here. Certainly, I need to play at my highest level to beat him,` Tsitsipas told ATP on May 13.

Tsitsipas is one of the players with the best form of the clay season so far.

`Tsitsipas is definitely a big challenge for me,` Djokovic said about the junior.

Djokovic has played just seven matches in the clay season and has not won any titles.

Tsitsipas can become the first person to beat Djokovic in the quarterfinals of the Rome Masters, since Tomas Berdych in 2013. The 22-year-old player defeated Nole in the quarterfinals of the 2019 Shanghai Masters, after three sets.

Another match that also promises to be attractive is Rafael Nadal meeting Alexander Zverev.

Nadal has a chance to get revenge on Zverev after three consecutive losses.

Fitness, therefore, is an issue for both.

Zverev beat Nadal in all three recent encounters without losing a set.

Not counting the 2020 season interrupted by Covid-19, Nadal has never missed all the Masters 1000 finals on clay since 2005. The Rome Masters is the last chance for the Spanish player to maintain this achievement.

Two other quarter-finals also take place today: Andrey Rublev vs. Lorenzo Sonego, and Reilly Opelka vs. Federico Delbonis.
