`The baby is 5 months old, eats well, knows what’s going on,` Mr. Hoang shared on January 31 about his joy after 8 years of infertility.

Hoang and his wife’s son was born thanks to in vitro fertilization technology at IVF Tam Anh in Ho Chi Minh City.

Married in 2016, a year later without children, Mr. Hoang and his wife, 30-year-old Thao, went to the doctor.

A year later, packing up and returning to Ho Chi Minh City for examination, Mr. Hoang received a diagnosis of varicocele, had surgery and had a testicular biopsy, but still had no sperm.

From 2018 to 2022, they returned to Ho Chi Minh City three times, to major hospitals and fertility clinics. Test results recorded only 1-2 sperm in the semen sample, and were prescribed a sperm donation.

`Almost all hope is gone,` Mr. Hoang said.

In November 2022, he went to the Reproductive Support Center, Tam Anh General Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City (IVF Tam Anh, Ho Chi Minh City), and was examined and had normal endocrine and genetic tests.

When testing the semen, the lab specialist used an inverted microscope with a magnification of 200 times to find a few mobile sperm scattered in several locations.

Doctor Le Xuan Nguyen said Mr. Hoang still has a chance to have children without needing surgery or asking for donated sperm.

Mr. Hoang had his sperm collected.

Ms. Thao’s ovaries were stimulated and 11 mature oocytes were obtained.

Ms. Thao received qualified endometrial preparation and transferred a good embryo to help conceive.

`8 years of going to every hospital, luckily my husband and I did not give up,` Mr. Hoang said.

Doctor Nguyen added that Mr. Hoang’s testicles are quite small and soft, not as firm as standard.

Doctor Le Xuan Nguyen and his team performed egg retrieval for patients at IVF Tam Anh in Ho Chi Minh City.

According to Dr. Nguyen, men’s reduced ability to produce sperm, or even azoospermia, can be due to many groups of causes such as: endocrine disorders;

The testicular sperm production process from the sperm stage to mature sperm appearing in semen can last up to 3 months.

Doctors can collect and store small amounts to help patients have children.

Doctor Nguyen recommends that spermatogenesis impairment in men often progresses silently and is difficult to detect.
