Nadal holds a physical advantage over Djokovic, when the two meet for the ninth time in Rome, at 10pm today, May 16 (Hanoi time).

Djokovic played for nearly five hours on May 15.

Sonego, in front of the cheers of the Italian audience, played with ecstasy and confidence when facing the world’s number one tennis player.

In a corner position and facing two match points, the Italian rallied and won the 10-minute ball-blocking game to pull the set into a tie-break series.

Djokovic 2-1 Sonego

Djokovic carefully studied the powerful play of Sonego – who eliminated Dominic Thiem and Andrey Rublev in the previous two rounds.

`I can only blame myself after not being able to close the match after two sets,` Djokovic said after the match.

In the final, Djokovic will face Nadal for the 57th time – who won a game of blocking the ball in each set to defeat the `serving machine` Opelka 6-4, 6-4.

`After I beat Tsitsipas, I met Rafa in the locker room and we laughed together,` Djokovic said.
