Before the season was paused to make way for the 2022 World Cup, Chelsea lost three consecutive matches in the Premier League, at the hands of Arsenal, Newcastle and Aston Villa with the same score of 0-1.

Therefore, the victory against Bournemouth in the last match at Stamford Bridge in 2022 relieves a lot of pressure on coach Graham Potter.

Havertz opened the score in Chelsea’s defeat of Bournemouth in round 17 of the Premier League at Stamford Bridge, London on December 27.

Yesterday, Chelsea dominated and settled the match in the first half.

Less than 10 minutes later, Chelsea doubled the gap.

At the end of the half, it was Christian Pulisic’s turn to kick into the net for the away team.

Chelsea’s victory was not complete, when Reece James was injured and made way for Cesar Azpilicueta from the 53rd minute. The 23-year-old defender had just recovered from a knee injury that forced him to miss 8 weeks and miss the 2022 World Cup.

Taken over by American billionaire Bill Foley during the season to make way for the 2022 World Cup, Bournemouth is the second Premier League club to have a new owner in the 2022-2023 season, after Chelsea itself.

At Stamford Bridge, Bournemouth only held the ball 39%, hitting the target four times with the most dangerous opportunities coming in the fourth minute of injury time in the second half.

In the next round, Bournemouth returns home to host Crystal Palace on December 31, while Chelsea travels to Nottingham Forest’s stadium on New Year’s Day.
