Two people close to the Bo family confirmed on SCMP that the letter, personally written by the 64-year-old former Politburo member, had been distributed within a small group of his supporters since September 17.

In the letter allegedly written on September 12, the former Chongqing Party Secretary continued to express his strong protest attitude as when he appeared in the trial at the end of August.

`I will wait quietly in prison,` he wrote.

Bo Yibo, along with Deng Xiaoping and several other core leaders, were known as the `eight great elders`, a group of veterans of the Chinese Communist Party who held important positions during the decade

Bo Yibo was imprisoned at least twice by the Kuomintang, before the Chinese Communist Party came to power in 1949. He was purged in 1966 during the Cultural Revolution, but regained his position at the end of the year.

`My father and my mother have both passed away, but I still keep their advice in mind. I will not disgrace their glorious past. I can endure greater pain,`

Bo said he still keeps a photo of his mother, Ho Minh, by his bedside and `no longer feels lonely` when she is by his side.

Bo Xilai also thanked his family members for supporting him.

At the end of the letter, Bo sent a message to his two sons, Ly Vong Tri, 35 years old, his stepson with his first wife, and Bo Qua Qua, his son with Mrs. Gu Kailai, his second wife.

`I hope they can continue the family tradition and achieve many achievements. I hope they will be good brothers.`

The Jinan Intermediate People’s Court yesterday announced that the sentence for Bo Xilai will be announced at 10:00 a.m. on September 22.

Previously, he was tried in a five-day trial on charges of bribery, corruption and abuse of power.

Sources say he could receive a prison sentence of less than 15 years and will appeal.

Mr. Bo is the highest-ranking Chinese official ever prosecuted, since former Beijing Party Secretary Chen Xitong in 1998 and former Shanghai Party Secretary Chen Liangyu in 2008. These two people received 16 sentences respectively.
